Come Una Macchina. due mese italiani
The name is Italian for "like a machine", a phrase that denotes the mode of operation for a fifth-year architecture studio that took place in Milan, Italy this past summer.
Come Una Macchina is an exhibit that opens in the CAAD main gallery on Sunday, November 25, 2012. The name is Italian for "like a machine", a phrase that denotes the mode of operation for a fifth-year architecture studio that took place in Milan, Italy this past summer.
The first of two projects was carried out under the tutelage of CAAD Associate Professor George Katodrytis. This project required the students to design a studio/lab or an intervention within Milan that operated like a "machine"-- in essence a micro-urban condenser of the city.
The second project was headed by CAAD Associate Professors Kevin Mitchell and Michael Hughes and called for the students to conceptualize the floral rituals of Italian burial tradition within a "house of flowers" to be located outside Como's Cimitero Monumentale. The work exhibited was done by 18 students over the course of 60 days amidst travels and adventures all across Italy-from Milan to Florence, Como, Rome, Venice, Vicenza, Verona and back.
