Lamination Project
Fall 2017 - Wood I
Assignment: Explore the technique of laminating pieces of wood together and create a volume with the results. Using string, emphasize the volumes that are created using various weaving techniques.
When ideating, most of my initial ideas tend to be very symmetrical and repetitive design. For this project, I tried to deviate as far away from that as possible by allowing the lamination to determine how and where I connected parts(lamination templates were formed before we were given the assignment direction).
By focusing on various methods of joinery, I determined how to create a form that is voluminous in all planes. I used assorted types of weaving to accent the extrinsic volume created by the protruding arms as well as to emphasize the innate volume created by the laminations coming together.
