Rift table is a project that revolves around two main ideas. The first idea is an invitation to think about the elements of worn-out or broken furniture which fill our garbage cans or can be found in the street and to NOT throw these elements away but recycle them and create objects to furnish our houses. The second idea is that digital medium can play a vital role in transforming these elements into beautiful and luxurious objects.

The Rift table project is designed for people who are sensitive to the ethical and ecological concerns related to the use of our furniture, its product life-cycle and its fate after use.
Plates of glass can often be found among abandoned furniture items. These broken plates, all or parts of the plates are fragile and can sometimes be found among waste. Working with glass is not easy and very few people are likely to reuse glass in any other function besides its original use.
Current technologies can be combined to support the craft industry and work with this material to re-adapt it to existing forms. 3D scanners, digital photography, CAD and CNC machining are some of the craftsman's tools that allow him to imagine tailor-made furniture with a very high level of accuracy. Rift table originates from a glass plate with an existing complex shape. The objective is to sublimate the recovered element by adapting the wooden support to its shape. The object is designed to be light and airy, which provides a touch of elegance to the project. Digital photography, CAD, laser prototyping and digital milling are the different steps required to achieve the objective.

With the Rift table project, one can witness the marriage between digital technology and ecology: a response to the question of innovation in the aesthetics of today's furniture.
