Reports by survivors from a German raider, sunk at the same time, to the effect that the Australian warship had been sunk in a battle with the Geman ship were widely distrusted for various reasons. This account, aided by the author's decryption of coded documents and interviews with German survivors, confirms what really happened in the battle between the two vessels.
