The Vanishing Trade Newsletter

I created these newsletters to share my passion for Singapore's vanishing trades. Growing up in Singapore, I've always been fascinated by the rich cultural heritage that surrounds me. But as I got older, I realized that many of the traditional trades that defined our country's character were slowly disappearing.

I wanted to do something to preserve these trades and the memories associated with them. So, I started researching and writing about them, creating a newsletter that would highlight a different trade in each issue.

Through my research, I discovered the stories of skilled artisans who dedicated their lives to perfecting their craft. I learned about the intricacies of traditional cobblers, the art of rattan weaving, popular food items such as kacang puteh and ice cream vendors. These trades may have vanished or are vanishing as we advance as a society, but the memories and stories surrounding them are still very much alive.

My hope is that these newsletters will not only educate readers about Singapore's cultural heritage but also inspire them to appreciate and preserve it. I believe that by sharing these stories, we can keep the spirit of our vanishing trades alive and pass it on to future generations.
