The Project starts from the idea to find a balance between the two culture that are present in London, the Roman one and the Anglo-Saxon.
The path that connects the two sites, follows the line of the ancient roman wall and represent the Roman culture that is composed by lines and enclosures.
Instead the Anglo-Saxon culture is composed by points and is represented by the tower, called “The Monolith”.
Started from the first architectural shape, the menhir, “The Monolith” is the contemporary one, without forgetting the principles of the past.
The height is 62 m as the Tower Bridge in a way to have relationship with it.
It’s also taller than the City Hall in a way to have a clear view toward the Thames, the north facade
at the ground follows the direction of the pedestrian path while at the top is parallel to the course of the Thames, so the facade is rotated from the ground to the top.
The public space in front of the building is formed by a gradient of green starting from the Tower Bridge and it ends after the City Hall, also at the west side of The Monolith the soil si bended into a sail in a way to show the underground space and give light to it.
