A humane education teacher at the Humane Society of San Bernardino Valley in California, Lynn Hildebrand delivers humane education presentations to students in pre-school through sixth grade. Lynn Hildebrand’s organization works with the Pet Partners service program to support therapy and assistance animals who visit nursing homes, hospitals, treatment centers, and other facilities. Pets and Partners plans to celebrate National Therapy Animals Day through the Treats & Sweets Day fundraiser.
The event asks participating bakers to hold their own bake sales in order to raise money for Pet Partners projects. Participating individuals can set up fundraising pages or online bakeries to promote their Treats & Sweets bake sale to friends and family and raise awareness for the importance of therapy animals and their benefits to mental health. Those without confidence in their baking abilities are encouraged to partner with friends or a local bakery to provide treats for supporters.
Participants may take part individually or as a member of a team, and the first 300 bakers to register will receive a baker start-up kit containing a fundraising guide, stickers, poster, and a paper chef hat. Bakers may choose to create and sell treats for humans, animals, or both. Although the official National Therapy Animals Day takes place on April 30, participants may host their bake sale on any day during the month of April. Additionally, registered bakers who raise or donate at least $100 will receive a commemorative t-shirt for National Therapy Animal Day.
Funds raised during the Treats & Sweets fundraiser go toward a number of Pet Partners’ projects, including training and registration for animals and their handlers, and the creation of a multi-week curriculum program that utilizes therapy animals to teach important lessons of empathy and responsibility to children.
