3D Fabrication: Culminating Work

Wood & Translucent Fabric, 3 1/2 FT. X 2 FT., 2017
For the last workshop of the semester, we were tasked with creating a sculpture that represented tension and compression. Triangles are a shape that I have used the for entirety of the work shop as they are such striking and sleek forms. As I began to build this piece I found that each of the forms represented an almost aggressive or dominating sense to them. I attempted to utilize the scrim is such a was as to make it appear as if the fabric was holding the piece together as it attempted to explode from the ceiling. Overall, the positioning of the piece is the most important feature of this sculpture, the ceiling was an area that I felt was underutilized and really helped to solidify the piece as intimidating (as if it would jump down onto you at any second).
