Macro < Micro
The concept design for the book is based on the interpretation of Chicago from a macro to micro level. The design of the front cover expresses my representation of Chicago's urban fabric. Each layer is a symbol of my mental images of the city. Throughout the book there are two dialogues that are simultaneously being told. At the top in larger type (macro) is my personal journey throughout the city while the smaller type (micro) is a rigorous investigation of other cities in comparison. On various pages in the book there is a pairing of a large image (macro) and a small image (micro) with coordinates that relate to it’s current location in Chicago. The typography was carefully placed on each page and the photography was either taken by myself or borrowed from reliable sources, which have been credited.
