Brief:
You are required to create the design for a broadsheet newspaper. The publication is dedicated to the subject of art & design and your newspaper should exhibit the qualities of an 'up-market' publication, demondstration aesthetic use of typographic hierarchy, image and gridwork. You should try to avoid any reference to 'tabloid' newspaper design.
Aim:
- The use of grid forms to inform composition
- Appropriate use of type
- Managing colour
- Understanding the production process in designing for print
- The successful integration of word and image to a high standard of competence
- Design in the context of the intended target audience.
Submission Specification:
1- Masthead and front page design
2- An editorial / biography page on a typography or designer/artist or art movement of your choice. An interview section should be included.
3- A'list' page of art & design related subjects/items based on a letter of the alphabet.
When getting started I researched couple broadsheet newspaper, about columns, gridwork and so one which you'll see on my sketchbook. Now as you see I had to look into art & design news, look for content to fill in my design, here's couple topics I found during my research.
