Guidance system / university of applied sciences in Mainz Germany
A designwork in signaletics
For the University of Applied Sciences Mainz, we the designers Johannes B. Ludwig, Carola Bieser an interior architect Gaby Lunkenheimer, developed 2008 the brandnew guidance system for the new building at the Universities campus. It had been implemented this year and was our first professional job in signalethics and typography after we left the university. The system is based on the two principles of near and distance and has two main factors to be mentioned. First the architectional relations of the distances inside the building and its structure and second the typographic realtions of a monotype which has been also chosen as the main type for the new corporate identity of the university, the font simple from atelier Norm based in Zurich. This font has been applied by us without chances in its charcteristics. This project shows very clearly the nice possibilities of a monospace font in the architectional grid and its sympathic contrast of smaller typesizes to bigger types which are implemented in the system.
