Anew Inlay

“Mother-of-pearl inlay” is a type of traditional art inserting nacre into lacquerware, wood, or metal. Resulting from mass production and manpower outflow, this declining technique is now facing transformation into everyday decoration instead of fancy crafts. Only with this could the public value the true beauty of the delicacy of “mother-of-pearl inlay” once again.

Nowadays, plenty of daily commodities are often abandoned once worn out just like the worthless shell without a pearl inside. However ancient people used to decorate high-class crafts by inlaying shells into woods. With this traditional “mother-of-pearl inlay” technique could we add shine to worn-out necessities.

Office supplies, baking molds, screw machine parts, or even beads for bracelets are all easily collectible in everyday life and thus can be further rearranged to design brand new decorations.
