AIR: Interactive DJ System

Music is everywhere around us, and we often need different tunes to fit different scenarios of our lives. This project revolves around the idea of curating music for different mood and occasions in a room. Much like an automatic DJ, I wanted to create a system which can detect the mood of a room and play music accordingly.
AIR plays music as it receives the movement and volume data of the room. When the room has less movement and noise, a mellow, simple track will be played. As the movement and noise in the room increases, more tracks and beats will be layered on top of the first track to brighten up the mood. The project uses microphone, webcam, MAX MSP and Ableton to achieve the result. The microphone creates a data input of the amount of volume in the room, and the webcam creates a data input of the velocity in the room. By adding up both datas, an energy value is programmed in MAX MSP. The OSC value is then sent to Ableton through Max for Live. Ableton will then play the tracks as programmed.
