Grand Canyon Travel Poster

Introduction:
At the start of this semester, Mr. Davis in my Graphic Design class introduced us to a program called Photoshop. After being introduced to the basic functions of the program we were instructed to create a photoshopped travel poster. We were given multiple assignments prior to the poster such as sketches, drafts, and multiple copies of the "final" project. Initially, the process was difficult; however, when you start to play around with the program and become familiar with it, the task became easier. My group decided to combine multiple pictures of the Grand Canyon in Arizona to form our travel poster. Below is our process outlined and displayed. Enjoy!

Our 10 Sketches:
Initially we started out with an idea of taking picture of the city and fading the text behind the city. Then we pivoted to combining multiple images of a beach into one. Finally we decided on the Grand Canyon idea as shown.

Inspiration for Sketches:
After using many images to create our sketches we decided on the sunset and the grand canyon
Roughs:
In the roughs, we start to create the final draft by selecting how the poster will be outlined. We toy with adding the city with the grand canyon but finalized with adding the sunset to the grand canyon picture and replacing the right side of the canyon with another piece of the canyon.
Final Compositions:
Final Comp 1: In this image we messed with the red hue and some areas were too red. We needed to make the sunset more believable and make it seem less photoshopped and more realistic.
Final Comp 2: With this image we were challenged to make a drastically different one compared to our final. We messed with the saturation and cyan percentage to make vivid tones of red throughout the photo. However, this photo would look horrible as a travel poster.
Final Final Comp: In this image we fixed the red hue that was causing the creation to look somewhat unrealistic. We tried for natural tones and utilized shadowing in order to make the canyon look like it was experiencing a sunset. Likewise, we decided to do the border at the bottom with the lettering to help make the image more like a travel poster, providing some information for the individuals potentially looking at the image. We also used a picture of rough sand in order to imply a retro look to the poster. We hope you enjoyed our travel poster!
