Class project. Title and menu.

From the moodboard: "Music TV networks were meant to be savage, swashbuckling brutes. What’s more bootleg than scrambled porn? And what if a pervy witch was in charge? If you have to air bad sitcom reruns and ‘reality’ tv shows, why not make it feel weird? (weirder)"

The idea driving this concept ("Witch Porn") was to bring a little danger and some weirdness back to music tv.  It sprung from the feeling that contemporary music tv had become bland and bloodless, where it used to be transgressive. I went back to the golden age of music tv and to those first summer days spent indoors watching things that kids probably shouldn't have been watching.

I figured that if the network had to play these shows on an endless loop, why not admit that it's weird for a "music tv" channel to do this and embrace the strangeness of it.

I thought playing with the idea of television as a bad influence, would be interesting and drew from the negative aspects sometimes attributed to television -- its hypnotic effect,

Moodboard, "Witch porn"
Frame 1. "New Young Americans"
FUSEtv didn't have a tag line/slogan, but in my research I found a phrase they used for their target demographic, "New young Americans."

+++
Frame 2, "#NYA"
I abbreviated the tag line/slogan for the social media tie in. Also, visual reference to mis-spent youth watching scrambled porn.

+++
Frame 3, "FUSEtv - Abandon all hope, ye who enter"
Liberal use of screen caps from, "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari." Sly reference to the hypnotic effects of television watching.

+++
Frame 4, "Moesha... forever!!!"
"Moesha. Every day, forever..." I watched days upon days of it to get the footage I needed. You could easily dwell in Moesha's reality from Monday morning until Friday night. For some, the very definition of hell.

Playful jab at FUSEtv for playing this show non-stop.

The music behind the menu screen is from "Columbo," an old tv detective show -- referencing the sitcom/rerun heritage of this show.
