Capturing dramatic narratives in everyday reality

"Comedy, Rebirth, Rags to Riches, Tragedy, The Quest, Overcoming the Monster, Voyage and Return – these seven plot archetypes can be seen at work everywhere, from global news stories to the smallest interaction (see Christopher Booker’s The Seven Basic Plots: Why We Tell Stories - for a better idea of what these archetypes involve)."

Pick three of the seven archetypes and create a static or moving image for each one that tells a story from the modern world

"Overcoming the Monster"
.
"Rags to Riches"
.
"The Quest"
.
"Voyage and Return"
.
"Comedy"
.
"Tragedy"
.
"Rebirth"

Response:
The theme for this project was to subvert the typical homeless narrative. Rough sleeping has become such a visually desensitised issue in our society that we have all but forgotten the feeling of shock. This normalisation has transcended into creative projects, the emotive laden black and white photography of the past barely raises an eyebrow anymore. These images seek to present a shocking glimpse into the attitudes of the future, one which has been formed by current ignorance and nonchalance of today's society.

Each image provides only a hint of a possible storyline and is left completely open to interpretation. It is the duty of the viewers to discuss and debate amongst themselves how they personally see each story unfolding.
