Alice in Wonderland Digital Book
The requirement of the brief was to produce a digital version of a banned book. My chosen book was Alice in Wonderland, with a focus on chapter 7.

In response to the brief, I wanted to create a filmed book and so I looked at how I could recreate the scene, whilst still allowing the audience to read the book. For the book itself, I designed a tablecloth that had the text from the chapter, displayed around the entire table. Whilst I filmed the words on the table, I was directing the people sat at the table to interact with the objects so that the scene 'comes to life' as the audience is reading the book.

Because the book was banned predominantly because of its reference to drugs, I wanted to subtly demonstrate this in both the scene and the use of typography on the tablecloth. On some of the text on the table, I have repeated the phrase and overlaid them, so that it is difficult to read. On major phrases in the text, I have also used a combination of photographed and letterpressed text so they almost look distorted. The classic tea sets on the tables create a sense that it is be a traditional tea party, however when you look closer it becomes apparent that they don't actually match. Both of these aspects, combined with the use of typography on food, references the nonsense and illusional aspect of drugs, therefore relating back to why the book was banned.
