Baseline Magazine

Two fictional possible cover designs for a future issue of Baseline Magazine that I created as part of my Art & Design Foundation course. The covers question the idea of why typography should be produced and presented in conventional ways. This is achieved through both the imagery used and techniques such as the 3D effect seen in the first cover. They question the use of typography through a standard magazine cover format in order to keep the link back to the current use of typography whilst exploring different uses of it predominately through the imagery used.

The first design questions why typography should have to be flat and uses 3D effects to make the title look like it is raised off of the cover, (you'll need 3D glasses to see the effect properly).
The second design asks why typography needs to be on paper and so features imagery of the sentence printed onto a brick by means of Letraset. With this version of the magazine, I wanted to do more than just create the cover and so designed a wallet in which the magazine would sit. The brick image became a label holding the packaging closed, whilst the rest of the wallet showed the environment around it. The packaging therefore became a way for the user to explore the location in which I had placed the typography whilst they opened it.
