Gold Diggers
Conceptual Cook Book Design for Neil Roake, Modern Museum
Neil Roake (creative director at Modern Museum) was/is planning a conceptual cookbook and he approached my University class to work with. We each individually had to come up with our own concept and design for the book based on his briefing. The idea of the book was young up and coming cooks moving to Johannesberg to look for further success and to boost their careers in the kitchen, hence the title "Gold Diggers". The book was intended to be more social and lifestyle based than you're conventional cook book.

A large focus was on designing a beautiful typographic cover that had a concept linked in with the books vibe. I used an image of a poitjie (small cooking pot designed for resting on a fire) pouring out liquid gold type. The concept was based around the idea of a pot of gold, or pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. This symbolized the wealth and success the people in the cookbook aimed to find in Johannesberg, known as "the city of gold" in South Africa. Layout structures, splash pages, inside covers with flaps and the outside cover was required.

note: the photographs of food and restaurants are not my own, the two photographs of people are my own.
