BelGRADE Opera
Students School project (2011.)

The idea for the design of this building, that shouldrepresent the symbol of the capitol, results from the desire to embody the actof opera, as a musical and theatrical accomplishment.

The three main things every act of the opera has, are:stage performance, written music (meaning notes) and the music as sound. Theyare presented in the project as adequate correspondents in the real world.

The movement of people (notes) within the cubes (stages),as well as on the field (wavy like the sound) is, in a way, as a sequence ofnotes in a scoring system, which contributes to the creation of music.

The display of the site explains the connection betweenNovi Beograd and the old city core which are on the opposite sides of the riverSava. The space on Novi Beograd is transformed into a cultural zone/centre, withthe Opera as the dominant building. The old buildings of Staro Sajmište areused as serving facilities of the Opera house. The design and position of thehouse (the angle between the two cubes) opens a great panoramic view of the oldcity centre that lies across.

The project was designed by the following team: Jovanović Marko
