Poster Design: Tribute to the Troops

Tribute to the Troops Raffle Ticket Poster

Project Type: 11in x 17in Poster

Client: Tribute to the Troops

Role: Graphic Designer

Challenge: Tribute to the Troops is a volunteer organization that honors members and families of our armed forces by granting education scholarships and honoring the memory of our fallen soldiers through motorcycle rides. This poster was created to advertise an event that they hold annually where they raffle off a new custom painted Harley Davidson motorcycle to raise funds for their cause

This year’s motorcycle was custom painted with different scenes from each war since WWI. I began brainstorming and I knew that I wanted to incorporate elements of the American flag, because when I think patriotic the first thing I think of is our flag. I also decided that I wanted the poster to be eye-catching and patriotic but not too much. I am a fan of the WWII military propaganda posters and that is what I based my design off of.

So I chose to use darker, and less saturated shades of the red and blue, and cream instead of white. I also used a charcoal background instead of white, because I feel that with too much white it could get lost in a sea of similar posters. It also follows the vintage war poster feeling that I was trying to recreate.
