Safely - Domestic Violence Awareness

The “Safely” app looks like any other iPhone or android app, but it’s actually a potentially lifesaving domestic violence alert system. The icon itself doesn’t give away what the app entails, which allows you to keep your privacy. If someone you know is in an abusive relationship, or if you yourself are in an abusive relationship, the Help Section of the app contains complete resources for victims of domestic violence, as well as a way and tips to get help when you need it. While the front page functions like a regular news app which provides home updates, when you go to the “Help” section of the page it provides a list of local domestic violence resources and a “HELP” button, once pressed, the app then alerts the user’s chosen contacts (which you list in the settings) and local emergency services about the violent or potentially violent situation. Allowing help to be sent to you as soon as possible. This will be extremely convenient for those in any situation of abuse as people almost always have their phones either on them, or close by. Overall, having an app that can help someone get help without the abuser’s notice could serve as a lifeline for someone in danger. The app will also function as a safe place because it is constantly updating its information, allowing you to always know where the closest shelter is to you at your given location.

The app will be free of charge making it available to anybody with a smartphone.

This app will come in two different looks, all depending on your style. One will make the app appear to look like a makeup app, or online blog, as the other one will have a simpler, masculine feel. This feature is great because people are always looking over your shoulders, both at home and in public places, and you may not necessary want people knowing about any issues that you may be having at home. This is a touchy and very personal subject for many dealing with these issues, which is why I intended to keep the app as anonymous as possible.
