Acid House is known as being one of the largest music scenes in Britain.

It was founded in Chicago, and then transcended across the pond to Britain by the early eighties. Where the culture caused chaos in fields and caused a ‘moral panic’ for the press. Raves, glow sticks and smilies quickly became part of the fabric going beyond the clubs and become embedded into culture. The aim of this publication is to highlights key recognisable moments with a text written by Luke Bainbridge.
Helvetica was chosen as a significant typeface for the era. Many promotional and event posters were designed using Helvetica to advertise the club scene in London. It also enabled the practice of a lot of body copy in small spaces, refrencing again people in crowed areas.

To contract Helvetica, Times New Roman was selected to represent Thatcher’s government and establishment. This typeface was used to represent the authoritative voice at the time as the government made it illegal to host raves in unregistered venues. This law was published and set using Times New Roman.
As the publication progresses, the layouts and choice of colour get darker and more muted to represent the shift in the culture over a 5 year period. Towards the end of the publication, the pages are entirely black to show the shutting down of clubs. Helvetica begins to fade away completely and be replaced with Times New Roman.
