Military Brat Patches

My intent with this project was to create patches that celebrate the military brat, provide a way for them to proudly wear their identity, and link them to their exclusive culture. Because they often move multiple times throughout their childhoods, once a military brat is living in the civilian world, it can be difficult to feel a sense of belonging to the immediate community. By providing a patch that illustrates their upbringing, my hope is that the military brat is reminded of the camaraderie amongst their fellow brats.

Within each patch, I decided to incorporate softer shades of each branch's colours, an iconic vehicle from each branch, and a silhouette of a child blowing on dandelions.

The dandelion is important in the design because it is the official flower of the military brat. Dandelions represent a child that can take root and grow anywhere and the plant itself can thrive in almost any climate.
