Christmas Script Pt.1

It began with a word
A vibrant intimacy that was spoken into creation
We basked in brilliance and majesty
But that wasn’t enough for us
Instead we chose darkness
Little did we know, that the absence of light would
become an unsettling place to call home
Over time,
We did everything in our power to drive the darkness away
We became captive to the idea that we could save ourselves
The audacity to think that our broken hands -
could rebuild what we lost because of our own selfishness
That somehow we could bring back the light
But the dark was far more barren than we ever really imagined
The harder we strived to find light
The more we sank into darkness
Distressed and hungry we searched
Tired and alone we wandered
Until we finally reached the end
The end of ourselves
But He knew
In the thick of despair when we had absolutely nothing left
He knew exactly what we needed
In the most uncommon way
Bursting through the darkness
Came a great light

He knew that we could never come up to him on our own
So in brilliant fashion, he would bring himself right down in the midst of us
The perfect one would willingly enter our imperfect human condition, in order to fathom - the depths of our depravity
Heaven would open up and place its most precious one in a human womb
With full intention, Mary, an ordinary girl from a small town in Galilee was chosen to carry the light
God knew that Mary would be confused and afraid by what the next miraculous 9 - months would look like
So he sent an angel of the Lord to tell her that she would divinely conceive a child
Not just any child
She would give birth to a son
And he would be called Jesus
And His kingdom would reign eternal
He would restore a light that had been lost and a relationship that had been silent for hundreds of years
Mary, who was engaged to Joseph, now had to explain the impossible
She was pregnant,
but Joseph was not the Father
When Joseph heard the announcement he knew what he had to do
What the law would require of him
Being a man full of integrity
He wanted to honor Mary
So he planned to break off their engagement in secret
Amongst all of the uncertainty
God showed up again
An angel appeared to Joseph
The same one who came to comfort Mary was here to reassure Joseph
And that night, Joseph realized the true hope of Immanuel
Our God would finally be with us
This is the good news that they’d heard about for centuries
God so loved the world that he gave
His only son would move heaven and earth to come near to us
so we could be with him forever

Forced to return to Joseph’s hometown
The couple struggled to find a safe place to give birth to this child
But they understood what no one else did that night
This wasn't just any child
This was the Son of God
But everyone in Bethlehem was too busy to notice
Too busy to make room
Too busy to witness the greatest miracle the world would ever know
It all happened in a moment
The most remarkable moment
God became flesh
Our precious savior was born into the humblest of circumstances
Divinity would enter this world in a place unfit for a king
Into a family of ordinary working class people
While all of the earth walked unaware, heaven came crashing down in the most unlikely - way
Only God could love like that
He arrived just like we did
Helpless and small
Certainly not in the way that we expected our king would come
But in a way that his infinite wisdom knew we needed
That night our world was changed forever
Because he came, our hearts would never be the same
And On that starlit wonder of a night
Our humble savior would come so all would be right
Even those who came before him knew that because of God’s tender mercy
He would send us a light
One that would shine upon us in our darkness
It would guide us to the peace that he intended
So that we could experience the brilliance and beauty of his astounding
