PRINTING PROCESS HANDBOOK

Reflection
Summary:
This project is to build a multi-page bound document in InDesign that will be a handbook illustrating knowledge of the printing process. Students will explore how to create a visually inviting handbook without distracting from the information.
Concept:
In my opinion, the handbook should be simple and easy to read. The layout also can’t be complex. So, each page should have a little paragraph. The words color will use black and background uses light grey without any texture or pattern. Then the book will be very clean and clear.
Process:
First, I search online for some handbooks and guidebooks to help me get my own ideas. Then put my ideas on the paper. I draw 10-page layout sketches and 20 cover sketches. Second, create diagrams of printing presses and create mini-samples of folds and binds. Third, create my document in InDesign and make sure the typeface choice. Fourth, when I finish the book, post it to the behance.com and leave feedback to other students’ book. After the work in process critique, do some changes on my book according to other students’ suggestions. Last, print this book and bind the book by myself.
Learned:
From this project, I learned what the style of handbook is and how to design and bind a handbook. I also learned the skills of using the Illustrator and InDesign. I also become familiar with the InDesign and learned how to work between Illustrator and InDesign. Those skills and knowledge I learned in this project can make me be a good designer in the future.
