1960's Psychedelic Posters

Purpose: The purpose of this project was to create a similar 1960’s psychedelic poster that promoted artists headlining a music festival. With inspiration from Pinterest as well as skills that we have learned so far, we created 2 posters that portrayed the art movement during this time period.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, etc.): The program I used was solely Adobe Illustrator in which I used tools such as the envelope distorter, eyedrop tool, text tool and the image trace tool. I used the text tool and the envelope distortion to create the elaborate lettering as design as seen in prominent 1960’s posters. Continuing, I used the image trace tool and the eyedrop tool to trace my prominent posters’ characters in Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls. The eyedrop tool was used to create the monochromatic color scheme within the face and background of the project. All of these tools helped exemplify line, color, shape, typography, and function in my posters. Lines can be evidently seen with the sharp and defining characteristics of the characters in my poster as well as the font. I also exemplified shape and typography with the circle behind the respective artists as well as the shape can be seen with the distorted typography of the poster. In addition, color and function can be seen with the color scheme only having two defining colors in each piece as it functioned as a promotional poster for a music festival.

Color Theory: The color scheme was monochromatic within the face of both Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakur as well as the neighboring background all consisted of variants in red and blue respectively. The use of these colors are then complimented with a second color of yellow and a very light brown serves as complementary to the respective posters as it follows the direction of having two colors on the poster.
