Bamirla Tableware

A project for the Hungarian Bátor Tábor

The project stands for the Hungarian Bátor Tábor which is a camp for chronically ill children. It was made to support the camp. I tried to represent the spirit of the camp with the rounded, playful shapes, use of colors and the character of arts and crafts. The products could also be keepsakes for the volunteers and children using unique symbols understood only by participants.

I am a volunteer in Bator Tabor camp as an arts and crafts program holder so I have had the chance to see how much the children like to create something on their own and how much confidence and joy they get through the creative process. The aim of this design is to transmit the atmosphere of the camp to the users.

The tableware is tend to support the healthy eating habits which the camp also believes in. It means they are adopted to the eat-less-more-often practice in their dimensions. As hot drinks are not served in the camp for safety reasons, I chose to design a cup without a handle. The decor houses stand out of the surface of the products so they prevent slipping out of the users hand. The dimensions of the cup, such as the diameter ensure spilling out the liquids accidentally.

As I have not worked with porcelain before, the whole process was new for me and I have had to try and learn how the porcelain works in the different stages of the process. Besides, I categorized the food which are served in the camp to determine the types of the tableware products I would like to design.

I wanted to use decorations which refer to the camp so I chose the following three ideas: the logo of the camp, the children accommodations and the graphics of the houses. There are two different decor types. On the one hand, I formed houses representing the children accommodations and attached them to the surfaces. On the other hand, I used carving method for the decorations.
