The project brief was to make a simulating suspension system and gear box..
Metal springs are used for suspension. Either front or rear axle can do articulation with the other axle flat. The chassis will remain parallel in relation to the ground even during articulation. Indian Meccano, i.e. Mechanix doesn't come with adequate gears, joints to make a decent steering system. Bevel, ball socket joints, universal joints and a variety of gears could make an acting steering system.
Live-axle Meccano suspension along with metal springs acting as front wheel independent suspension.

Articulation on the rear axle, not independent suspension though.
1000 rpm reduced to 500 rpm then to 250 rpm.
Big gear has 49 tooth where as small gear has 24 tooth. So, 49/24 almost 50% speed reduction.
