VOICES: My Creative Journey

VOICES: To Be Determined
Intro

For this project, we had to create a video telling the story of our creative journey. The video had to be created using Adobe Spark. We had to create illustrations for the video using Illustrator Draw. We had to use our own voices to narrate our story over the video. After that is done, we have to document how the video was made on Behance.
Materials

Hardware: iPad, Mac, PC, Phone, Headphones with speakers
Software: Illustrator Draw; Illustrator, Photoshop, Adobe Spark, Adobe Comp, Indesign
Platforms: Creative Cloud, Behance
Creative Process

Audience: People applying for the Arts and Design Foundation Program
Purpose: To show people how different paths in life can help you figure out what you want to do if you want to pursue arts and design using my story.
Importance: To show the bumpy road I had to take to figure out what I wanted to do.
I want the audience to think about their past and found out what they want to do now and in the future. The hook would be since I did not know what I wanted to do, the video itself will start and mostly be like that. The dramatic elements are the multiple changes in what I wanted to pursue as a career and how obvious it was and right in front of me what I wanted to do. I will be telling my story from a first person point of view. I use will both illustrations and photos to help tell my story. The theme I will be indecisiveness and I will be using the wander theme from Adobe Spark. The tone that will be used is a casual tone that I use when I talk to friends and family. The mood would be relaxed and I chose the relaxed song "Cup of Sugar" from Adobe Spark.

My earliest creative influences were video games, cartoons, and Microsoft Paint. They were so important to me because I was always curious about how this was done and I found them fascinating and still do to this day. My earliest memory of a creative accomplishment was this piece that I created in Microsoft Paint when I was playing around with it. I did not save it nor did I print it but liked what I created that day. What stood in my way creativity was myself. Looking at everyone's work discourage me and also trying to pursue a career with good pay. I prevail by to keep trying and to do my best and to find something that I would like to do. My areas of interest are graphic design, game dev, and photography because I like that you are using technology to create different pieces of art. The experiences, interest, or knowledge from my earlier life that prepared me for my current are of interest are studying marketing and doing different graphic design work and project in school. The singular event in my past that affected my decision to pursue my are of interest was a project in business class involving advertising. We had to create two different ads and I used graphic design to create them. My parents pushed me into doing something that I wanted to do. They helped me figure out what I wanted to do.

My interests have affected my life by making me more open with family and a bit more outgoing. My philosophy is to keep everything calm and simple. My creative work speaks to or represent my philosophy by having them not be loud and to have not a lot going on. They are simple and to the point. My time at school challenged my creatively by making me change how I look at different styles and works and to try them to see if I like them. The union station drawing for drawing class was an epic win because it help me realized that I might be good at drawing but not in the way I thought. I might be better at drawing using colours and values instead drawing with lines. The first assignment in 3D materials class was an epic fail. We had to create a 3D space. I learned that I have to careful when making something in 3D. I'm proud of my city shoot photos for photography class because I like how I was able to get the right lighting and shadows and the theme I wanted to tell. The biggest highlight currently is how much I have improved and learned.

In five years, I see myself having a career in graphic design. My next steps after finishing the program are applying to schools for graphic design or to self-teach myself at home with online courses or programs and to find a job or volunteer. The important lesson that I have learned this year as a student is to keep working, learning, and improving on the areas that you like. The advice that I would give to someone considering entering the program is if it is something that you really like to do and see yourself doing it in the future as a career or anything else, then pursue it. If I could make a wish come true, it would be that I have a good life.

Story Outline

- Hello, my name is Nick and this is my creative journey
- I had a few ideas of what it could be but the more I thought about it more, I realized that it could be about my indecisiveness of what I wanted to do in life.
- I was not really sure when my creative journey started.
- The first being video games because when I was young I got a Game Boy and I was as play them because you get to explore different worlds, be different characters or yourself and be part of the story.
- The other being is when my parents got a new computer.
- When it came to doing anything creative in school, I was ok.
- But I liked video games so much, I wanted to pursue a career in it.
- So early in high school, I still wanted to make video games and decided that I should do programming.
- This business class I took touched on different aspects of business.
- I did not take any classes for graphic design in high school but I did however take a tech design class which I had to use AutoCAD to make and build different objects.
- But because I took this class, I was able to join a school team that involved racing small wooden F1 cars.
- After high school, I went straight to university to pursue a business degree with a major in marketing.
- After I graduated, I still applied for marketing jobs while thinking what career I should change to.
- So I decided to go to the arts and design foundation program at George brown college to reconnect, improve, and to have a portfolio.
- After this program I hope to get into the graphic design program and have a career in graphic design.
- My journey in conclusion was like toppings on a pizza.
- So my advice would be to keep finding out what you want to do
Illustrations

I had an idea of using words in the illustrations. I ended up just using the AutoCAD one.
I changed them to illustrations like this.
An illustration used in the video.
I also used images that I had taken with a camera. I used an photo of my Game Boy and F1 car. I took the George Brown logo from the internet.
An photo I took used in the video.
I looked through Adobe Spark for a relaxed song and I chose "Cup of Sugar".
Storyboard
Production
I started this project with answering the questions about my past, present, and future to help me figure out what the video could be about.
Answering the questions about my past, present, and future.
Then I started to figure out what the video should be about and who it should be for by answering the story structure questions. After that, I wrote a script and kept changing it till I got right.
Script and outline
After I wrote the script, I started to draw the illustrations.
Working on an illustration
After that, I started to work on putting together the video.

Conclusion

Overall, I am fine with how the video turned out. I just wish I knew how to get rid of the static noise the mic picked up. If I had more time I might of been able to deal with that. I thought that the story ended up good because I did not know what it was going to be at first and I kept changing it and working on it. I know that I need to work on my voice over work. It was a bit rough and I needed to practice it a bit more.
