Composing With Glyphs
Composing with Glyphs, serif and sans-serif.
Composing with Glyphs was a challenge to design two abstract works of art that showcased the personality of the font, one serif and one sans-serif. The design was limited to a specific font, using just black and white, with only 5-8 glyphs allowed, and to include at least five different elements of typographic anatomy.
Sans-serif Glyph Composition with Neue Haas Grotesk Display Pro. Composed with two white glyphs (1, k) and four black glyphs (g, a, e, 5). Blending the lines where one character ended and another began helped to create an abstract design while still showcasing the personality of the font.
Serif Glyph Composition with Stempel Garamond LT Std. Composed with three white glyphs (i, 3, 8) and four black glyphs (Q, e, Z, f). A dramatic size difference allows the swoops of the Q and e to spiral around the Z-f-3 glyph, highlighting how it displays some of Stempel Garamond's serifs.
