Flickr Website Redesign
OPPORTUNITY
Find an existing website with poor functionality and aesthetics, aFind an existing website with poor functionality and aesthetics and reconstruct it into a more accessible site and enjoyable experience.
SOLUTION
To develop a solution, research was done oTo develop a solution, research was done on the existing Flickr site. Right away, problems with usability stood out. The fact that it was a site to upload high quality images to showcase photography was not apparent in the previous design. The objective was to put more emphasis on the images and to provide more accessible user navigation, including an upload button on every page. The concept was to have a centralized designated space for images and other content, so that the attention was always directed to the same location.
The solution was reached by moving all of the main navigation to the top of the page and secondary information below and to the left hand side of the page. The Photostream was then designed so that the images were placed in the middle with previous and next thumbnails to the left and right. The Sets page was then placed in a grid format so that every image in that set was able to be seen in one place.
