Grand Canyon Travel Posters

Here is an example of a short communications project embodies good visual communication for instructional design.  I created a travel poster from a high quality photography of the Grand Canyon.  For the words “Grand Canyon” I used the Rockwell Extra Bold font because of its typographic weight and because it carries a Southwestern feel in my opinion.  Because it serves as the title or header, I enlarged the size, added a white stroke and black drop shadow to make it stand out even more.  I used a cool sky-blue color for the font so that the words would correlate and be consistent with the feel of the color tones in the vista.  For the words “National Park” I used the Iowan Old Style font because I wanted a font with a nice typographical weight while possessing a conservative feel in light of the word “national.”  I kept the color consistent with that of the words Grand Canyon for the same reasons mentioned above.  Finally, in the “ask” or “instruction line” I continued with the Iowan Old Style font and used a cool purple tone for consistency with the overall cool tones and emotion of the image.
Here I am greatly increasing the stroke in the “ask” or “instruction line” so that the "plan your visit" line will pop out.
Making a decision on typographic design style considering typeface, placement, and size for drama and maximum impact.
Completed course by Ina Staltz to develop a deeper understanding of effective ways to us color, contrast, and scale for typographic designs and communications.
