Kodály Zoltán Choirschool Extension Design Project for "Complex Design Course"

The Choir School of Budapest has long ago overgrown its building, on the foothills of the Buda Castle. There are some essential functions missing from the school’s everyday life, such as a cantine, gymnasium and common spaces altogether.
My plan aims to solves these problems, focusing on the importance of the existing school yard, which expands and becomes the main spot for spare time activities and spending time together.
The new building parts actively connect to the existing ones
They become connected by an atrium that serves as main community space
In the same spirit the gymnasium and a concert hall become connected to the main atrium space
On top of the high ceiling rooms a vast schoolyard comes to life
The atrium on the entrance floor and its ‘cloister’ functions as the main community space of the school.
The school yard has several levels: a place for sports, smaller hidden spaces for conversations, open stages for the youngests’ needs and some places to perform.
The exterior of gets a brick cladding combined with a light green wall system. During the design process all the complitaced details got worked out up to 1:10 scale.
