ISTD- It Happened On This Day
BRIEF: IT HAPPENED ON THIS DAY
An open brief to be interpreted based on the idea of events that have happened over decades or centuries, on any given day.
The solution had to be typographically driven. It had to be a combination of creative, original, inventive typographic design combined with form excellence.
RATIONALE
I chose the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami.
The umbrella concept was brought together though the way the water directly hits the top/outside of the umbrella but also effects or may leave an impact on the person underneath the umbrella. The outer panels are filled with facts about the countries and people that were hit, while the inside panels are filled wit facts about how the rest of the world was affected and responded eg. donations, food etc.

Top/Outside panels
The fonts used on the top/outside panels is VTKS Worker Regular, to give a “damaged” effect in the same way the counties hit were damaged.
Bell Gothic Bold and extra bold were used to stand out, be bold to show the extent of the damage.

Underneath/ Inside Panels
The inside panels comprise of light and bold to show the lesser extent of the damage but still show it was the same event/tragedy.
Stacking the facts and making some words bolder or bigger give the viewer the option to pick out key words or find specific facts which
draw their attention and may relate to them personally.
