Prop Design: Lost in Translation

Props exist subtly in the background, although aid in drawing the eye to a specific item of focus. Whether used in a photograph or video medium, the item of focus is carefully surrounded by items which add reality to the environment.  A good prop can impact the focus of the story and add credibility to the storyline.
I created this matchbook after watching the movie Lost in Translation. I made it completely by hand, only harvesting the strike pad and matches from a previous and unrelated matchbook. I used the dimensions of another matchbook to design a template in adobe illustrator. This design was made by me to fit into the background of the movie. The design is 90's Japanese inspired, using vivid color and geometric shapes, and I also created the lettering using the line tool in adobe illustrator. I used this project to test my ability to be able to create something using a storyline or a theme and be able to design something that can fit well into the background and look as if it belongs there.
