Feminist Bindi Playing Cards

FEMINISM PLAYING CARDS

A question, "Why is feminism important?" was asked using Google Forms to collect information on the views of different people and to raise awareness about the increasing need for feminism in today's society. The responses were kept anonymous. I received around 52 responses and decided to present them on playing cards.

Why playing cards?

Playing Cards are a way people come together and have conversations therefore having a an important issue presented on the playing cards helps people to see the different points of view people have and may help convincing people of the importance of feminism.

What are the symbols used for the decks?

The decks, instead of having the traditional Diamond, Heart, Spade and Clubs, were represented using "Bindis" or traditional stickers that Indian women put on their forehead for beauty. These bindi designs can be commonly seen on many women' foreheads across India and South Asia.

What does the card back represent?

I used Golden Yellow, Green, White and Purple for the card backs as these colours were used extensively during the 1950s suffrage movement or the movement that fought for Women's right to Vote. I feel like that is an important movement in Women's history and should be an example for the current Feminist movements around the world.
