ORIGINAL JACKET SCANS
Finished print sheet for the tip-on "old style" jacket. I hand-set the type and created new Dynagroove logo and boxes, to ensure a smooth, professional appearance. The sheet is printed on paper, then glued to heavy card stock and cut to size. Tip-on jackets are more expensive than "print to board" direct print jackets, but the tactile quality of the heavy jacket and vinyl LP impart a sense of quality requisite for a high-end audiophile label.
A scan of the original label, with all it's 1959 hand-set type. As much as I love the analog process of printing (especially on an anolog LP reissue like Impex Records here), tight tolerances of modern printing and vinyl presses means a high tolerance digital file is needed to make the reissue label.
The finished digital recreation (with bleed). We left the Dynagroove logo rough to simulate that old-time look, but carefully replaced all type. Cleaning up Nipper's image (but not too much) helps to recreate the feeling Impex's target audience wants to feel when pulling that LP out of the sleeve: experiencing a classic analog recording in a classic analog way.
