Jambunatheshwara Temple, Hospet
Conservation Plan
The project was an initiation toward development of conservation plan for the Jambunatheshwara Temple, just outside the vicinity of the World Heritage Site of Hampi, Karnataka. The area around the temple has been a victim of illegal mining and the effect of blasting and loosening the soil can be witnessed in the form of structural degradation of this protected monument. The project was aimed at providing detailed condition assessment and analysis, as a basis of conservation strategies and planning to be adopted in order to restore the damage caused. The Jambunatha temple, which was constructed at a date unknown to us, is a significant pilgrimage center  and was perhaps a  pre-eminent religious center for people visiting the Virupaksha Temple in Hampi.
The documentation was done using manual survey techniques mainly to identify the various structural elements, heights and elevations as well as the ornamental features. The base drawings were drafted and then used to plot the various defects observed on the structure. The condition was mapped and an inventory of the defects for the structure was prepared.
