'a meeting of the elements'

In February, 2012, I saw a photograph on 'flicker' of this ocean scene.  I was so intrigued  by the dynamics of the ocean waves plunging against the lava formations, that I decided that I had to see it and photograph it.  I planned a trip for the 2nd week of May, hoping that the weather would cooperate for me.  Looking back on my experience in Oregon that week, I realize how fortunate I was to have all of the elements come together and work perfectly in my favor.  The water action on Thor's Well is the strongest and most dynamic at high tide.  By fortuitous circumstances, I happened to be on location when high-tide was taking place right at sunset.....on a clear day on the Oregon coast in the spring!!!  The Oregon coast is known for its overcast skies most of the year.  To have all of these criteria materialize "out of thin air" was awesome.   On top of this, the actual experience of photographing Thor's Well is exhilarating and somewhat dangerous.  You can get pounded by the wave action from two sides, and you can get your camera equipment drenched.  More than once, I had to grab my tripod and hold it above my head to keep the camera dry, while water was swirling all around my feet and legs below the knees.  This particular feature on the Oregon coast has captured the attention of many a landscape photographer, and I, for one will never forget my time there.
