Halifax Distilling Company Interpretive design

This project was done while under contract from Iain MacLeod Creative Services.

I meticulously designed and illustrated this wall map mostly from scratch, using a couple graphics elements from stock. I drew map grids, longitude latitude markers, and other chart elements. I pulled apart frames and used for accents and borders. I wanted to design something authentic. I used an eclectic group of fonts, as I've noticed some of these old map designs had a schizophrenic vibe to them. I recreated the weathered look of a period nautical chart. Size is 93.5" x 32.25".
The rack-card I designed was actually the first piece, and plotted a branding direction with their in-store merchandise as well as the interpretive panels.
Mockups showing elevations and placement of panels in the restaurant.
These are the 6 main interpretive panels. My design was chronologically composed, with each panel a period in the timeline. I chose a distressed and weathered background treatment using a combination of stock, and Photoshop treatments. I chose colours that also reflected an old weathered document. Fonts were Gotham condensed, Sentinel book/bold, Goudy Handtooled BT, and FFF Tusj bold. These heavy vinyl prints were mounted on wall cradles. I illustrated mockups and detailed spec drawings for cradles.
