Travel poster of Basque Country mountains

Internationally, Basque Country is best known for its coast side, surf or having fun during the summer ferias or at least these are the clichés one has about it .

I'm not originally from there but having been going there since my early childhood, it has grown on me and became like home at some point. Basque Country is a complex, rich and unique area of the World, especially in the hinterland where mountains, sinuous roads, waterfalls and many other gems can be discovered.

Being very fond of this country, I imagines an old vintage travel poster to pay tribute to all these remote locations engraved in Basque Country's landscape and to highlight the mountain's importance instead of the coasts'.

When I found the picture of an underrated yet very talented photographer named Indalecio Ojanguren, a picture taken on the top of mountain Arburu, I immediately fell in love and knew it would be the foundation for my own work.

I'm usually more of a one shot guy, meaning that with the current technology I’ve lost any instinct to just grab a piece of paper and a pencil and spend hours sketching.

With this personal project, I rediscovered the pleasure of feeling the pencil gently sketching on paper. With the original picture by my side, I took the time to do it right and reinterpreted the photo taken by Indalecio Ojanguren.

My final design was printed in France on Canson Arches Velin Museum Rag 315g. A wonderful paper with a tiny texture and a type of grain that brings some relief to the final design.

It's a real pleasure to see my print with these strong colours with a mat effect. You will see the textures on these pictures in more details.

My purpose was to celebrate these beautiful landscapes and hidden treasures of Basque mountains, therefore it seemed normal to design another version in euskara, the basque language.
