In the current social context, it's hard to ignore the intensification of the discussion of certain key themes, such as ethics, values, ecology, and sustainability in all areas of human knowledge. In the face of this perception arises the fact that thinking about the future is necessary; investment in long term social enrichment is important, and the key factor necessary for change is education, being that children are the best bet for the future.

An evaluation of public institutions located in areas of social vulnerability showed that there are no material conditions to provide for the large shortcomings in the education of students who Gardner (1994), as a disciplinary expert, defends as capable of articulating knowledge in order to illuminate new facts and situations. With the aim of assisting the education of these children independent of their social class, we identified the viability of a garden in a school environment as a way to promote and create potential for education in a broad sense, as well as stimulate man's ecological understanding. This is our challenge. The source of the material necessary to make the project feasible will come from the Social Banks of FIERGS, Uniritter's partner for the 4th consecutive year of the Project IV course.

The Social Banks Project is a social work methodology based on business management that aims to transform waste into a social benefit, reusing materials and redistributing resources. The project of the present piece of furniture arose with the intention of exploring the benefits of a garden not only for school age children, but also for the population and society as a whole. Raw material and the processes available at the furniture bank were used to construct a product with a high combined cultural and social value, since the practice of care for and experiences related to a garden put a human in contact with himself, nature, and society.
