ISTD 2016 Not another book about Adrian Frutiger

Concept
For this ISTD project I chose the brief A life’s work about Adrian Frutiger. In this publication we’re asked to create a prestigious publication that celebrates the life’s work of Adrian Frutiger. The main idea was to create a concept that’s different and unique than what people usually will do when they think about Adrian Frutiger. The idea for this project was to use a different approach than what people usually do when they celebrate someone work. Usually people only focus on the end result of a typeface but forget about the process that produced such a successful typeface.
The publication is about the process Adrian Frutiger went through to create the Univers  typographic system. Adrian Frutiger designed Univers in 1957, and it came about after he was asked to adapt Futura. He produced the font system in just 10 days drawing on scrap card and sticking together the results. The idea is to take the reader through the process Adrian went through to design Univers. The publication is layout in 10 booklets each booklet represents my interpretation as graphic designer on what he did on each day. The booklets start at day one when the process started up until day 10 where he was finished with the first designs of Univers. On day 10 Univers didn’t even have a name yet and the type has also changed from then.My interpretation of the process Adrian Frutiger went through to design Univers at the beginning in just 10 days, and not focusing on the end result we see today.
How I came about this idea was mainly because I wanted to do something different and unique because Adrian Frutiger is not like other typographic designers. Firstly I looked at his live and what made him different from other typographic designers, so I thought this idea will stand out and represent Adrian Frutiger in the best way.
