Nuts and Bolts | A Photographic Alphabet

I was recently tasked with the challenge of creating an alphabet from something in the world around me. I was pulled in multiple directions by different interests of mine, and it was interesting to see my work flow, so I thought I would share. 

Creating a concept was harder than I might have imagined. Brainstorming brought a few good ideas, but it is really hard to create some characters from every day items. Here were a few of the ideas that I had:
Each was appealing to me, but I was most happy with the hardware. Here is what the whole collection looked like before final processing in Photoshop:
I processed them to match the lighting more, put them in an appealing layout, and placed them in a mock-up to polish it all off. I was pretty happy with the results.
