self-sufficient community
My plan was to create a self sufficient community where 10 children, twoteachers with their family, the guardian and his wife live together.The school is lead by a couple who lives in a farmhouse. They are notjust their teachers but they also supervise the kids like parents. The systemoperation is aided by another couple who takes care of the guardian and kitchentasks.
The four buildings have the same form and are made of the same material,but they have different sizes and hights. The buildings are all one floor buildings.The first building unit gives home to the teacher couple and their twochildren. The second unit is a classroom together with teacher's room andtoilets. The classroom can accomodate 20 - 25 people. This unit with its 3,5 mheaights gives us the possibility to create a little space for thechildren, surrounded with a rope. This could be a private"attic" for the kids.
In the school farm 10 sleeping places are available in a separatedormitory building, where children can in two beddid bedrooms ecquipped withbunk beds. This unit includes also the guardian's room and a dining room whichopens to the country yard in summer.
The fourth unit is a gymn which received natural light from therooflights. It can be open in summer to the south facing courtyard overshadowed by poplars.
My intention was separating and connecting these people by functions. Iconnected the buildings by the pavemnetmade of attick bricks. All units are under one large roof covered with slate.

I'd like to use local materials like earth, mud. In the"Alfold" people have been using mud for bulding houses for centuries.My farm school's walls are made from stabilized and compressed earth blocks andthe load bearing parts of the walls I also use burnt bricks.
