A frottage is an object of art designed by placing a piece of paper on top of a textured surface or item and then rubbing over it, as with a pencil or charcoal.

This project aimed to a both scientific and religious little book describing an object which representation had to be done using the frottage technique. The subject of this book is a bulb: the three-dimensionality was difficult to represent on paper by just rubbing a pencil on it, so a sheet of thin, white rice paper was the perfect solution, also because this paper’s texture could give an ancient and more religious look to the final images.

Every part of the bulb has been analyzed: from the bottom to the crew, the whole item and the interior. The book starts with the electrical power point showing the power source that gives life to the subject and the final page ends with the entire bulb. Every aspect is analyzed by the text, written to mimic a XVII century essay, together with four scientists and writers quotations on light.
