The Gunpowder Plot
It Happened on this Day is a brief that asked me to pick a day in history, my own choice and interpret the information in a new, exciting way to wow the reader. The day I chose was November 5 th 1605, The Gunpowder Plot. I chose this day as I find it a day in which is full of excitement, colour and mystery. By researching everything associated with the day, I decided that for my 500 words or more I will use the actual story of The Gunpowder Plot. My design is very unique as I designed and made 8 double-sided postcards each with a section of the story upon it in an interesting, typographic fashion. Throughout my postcards I used, big letters, small text, bright colours, abbreviations, overlapping and many different typefaces to create the designs. Although each postcard has different layouts,I did keep the body text all left aligned to keep continuity throughout. As the Gunpowder Plot was in secret I came up with the idea of the postcards being placed inside a box shaped like a book and wrapped in a hessian material, as though the cards are secret and very precious. As the box does not have any writing upon it I created a tag attached to some string to accompany the box. The tag contains the text about what is inside and why the postcards have been made.

Strategy- The box with the cards inside will be presented at the York Castle Museum for the exhibition of the 410 th anniversary of The Gunpowder Plot. My target audience is history lovers and people who are interested in learning about The Gunpowder Plot. My design can be bought from the exhibition for personal use or it would make a fun, modern, informative gift, whether they use the postcards or just keep them, it’s fully the audience’s choice. The boxes will be placed upon shelves whilst a preview of the postcards will be placed upon a stand in between the shelves so my audience can pick them up and get a close up view.
