Richmond Night Market

The Richmond Night Market is one of the BC Lower Mainland's most popular destinations. A bustling typical Asian night market, it is a chaotic experience with sights, smells and colours to delight all of your senses. We wanted to create an comprehensive, evocative experience that  allowed visitors to be able to navigate the market in a functional yet memorable manner and to give the Richmond Night Market it's own unique brand.

We recognized that the Richmond Night Market's current logo, a duck pays respect to the nearby wetlands but saw that the logo is too reminiscent of the popular "Rubber Duck" sculptures found around the world. Wanting to give the market a unique brand we took inspiration from the Lower Mainland's rich history of neon signage and restyled the duck logo to maintain it's connections to the surrounding environmet.
The wayfinding strategy colour codes the various aspects of activities at the Night Market from playing games, shopping and more importantly, eating. Wayfinding is built into the overall experiential user experience in a seamless manner that allows visitors to navigate in person by signage, by map and by app.

The signage is displayed as colour coded banners around the Night Market as well as an interactive floor installation at the Night Market entrance that has navigational arrows directing visitors to the various parts of the market.

The delicious food is arguably the most important aspect of the Night Market. As such, the map and the application focuses its usability on the visitor being able to navigate by the type of food that they are looking for. Choose by genre of food, such as Chinese, Japanese or Dessert and see what your options are and then get to it!

Supplementary branding and marketing collateral was created to bind all of the pieces of the remaining pieces together.
