Paradise Lost - John Milton

Paradise Lost - John Milton
Gradproject 2012 Illustration
Starting from January 2012 I've been working on my graduation project. The general theme was "Exile from Paradise". We could choose any text we wanted, even writing own story was an option. I chose to "Paradise Lost" by John Milton since I am terrible at writing. I didn't want to make a regular comic, I don't like comics at all so the choice was easily made, illustrations!
Starting with storyboard. The final result ought to be a accordeon book 180x223mm. Each side has 35 pages text AND illustrations. I planned to make 39 illustrations but I only got to finish illustrations for Book IX (19 illustrations). The illustrations to Book X are drawn but not finished with details.
Storyboard part for Book X.
More detailed storyboard, without text placement. Deciding the colours and compositions.
Character design: Eva, God, Adam and Lucifer who's actually pretty handsome.
Lucifer enters sleeping serpent.
Second illustration. The part where Lucifer in Hell describes the world, how it should be if he could reign.
Adam and Eve hide themselves in the thickest of the woods, full of shame, after tasting the forbidden fruit.
Eve takes a bite.
Not really in the right order, a little preview of how it should look.
I chose to make an accordeon book because I could make illustrations that flow into eachother.
Every illustration is 240x290mm on 250g paper, painted with Ecoline (liquid water colour, but with other properties) and finished with black ink (chinese brush pencil and regular nib pen), there are also some pencil touches.
